Response to COVID-19

AMY Wellness Foundation is taking precautions following the recommendations of NC Department of Health and Human Services. We have decided that it is in the best interest of our community to virtualize, postpone, or cancel all events through April 8th.

Maureen Thornton

Ms. Thornton has lived in Little Switzerland and dedicated hours to the AMY community for some time. She comes to this region originally from Florida where she grew up as a Cuban-American.

Ms. Thornton recently retired from MRIGlobal, formerly known as the Midwest Research Institute (MRI). MRI Global is a national research institute performing contract scientific and engineering research for government and industry. The company’s focus is on translating new technologies in support of better health outcomes for humans, animals, and the environment.

Prior to MRIGlobal, Ms. Thornton worked as a research scientist, specializing in the study of the cell cycle at Florida Institute of Technology.

In her spare time, Ms. Thornton serves on the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival Publicity and Author Selection committees and the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital Board.
